Hello all....

My name is Chris, currently live in louisville and me and my wife are new to diving. We got certified on our cruise after taking local classes here. Tryin to find out any info about our local lakes in kentucky. I am a boat owner and get out camping usually twice a month during the summer. I get out to Green River Lake alot. Just curious if anyone has been in that one. I know about the big spots, i.e. Falling rock, Cumberland, and Dale hollow, etc. I was just curious about some of the smaller (and closer ) lakes. Thanks in advance....

Welcome Chris! I'm more in the western part of the state & primarily dive there. There is some (can't really say how much, i have never dove it) diving done in KY & Barkley Lakes. There is a couple of lakes a bit further south near Lietchfield, KY, these are Rough River lake & Lake Nolan. I have fished from Lake Nolan & it looks to be a reasonably clear lake. There is also a nice diving quarry in Hopkinsvile, KY. Ranges in depth from a wade in shore to 115' deep. There ia aslo another one a couple more hours away just north of Matropolis, IL. The biggest thing I would be concerned about with diving in public waterways is the general ignorance of some boaters to dive flag rules. The law states that boaters shall not come colser than a 100' radius from a dive flag (still that's not going to help you if they decide to use your flag as a slolom) & the diver be no more than 50' from the dive flag. In a perfect world, it would work, with a bunch of potentially drinking weekend boaters,...... who knows. I am not saying ALL boaters are careless, but there tends to be a lot of them out there & typically alcohol can be a factor. If you do decide to dive in public waterways, please do be careful.

well im basically just lookin for anyone who has dove in green river lake. im also game for diving at the quarry on most weekends. I dont really know any other divers, so if anyone is game, let me know...

Welcome to the KPP Chris!

Fraid I don't know anything about green river but someone here should be able to chime in.

Keep in touch for local get togethers and trips here on the KPP, hope to dive with you here this year.

Welcome to the KPP! As Chris said, Keep an eye out here for activity. It'll be hopping before too long.

Unfortunately the vis in most of the Lakes is usually pretty poor. Laurel Lake is OK at times and I've heard that Dale Hollow is good but I've never dove it. There are a few quarries within driving distance to us but Joe's is it for anything we can call local.

i have dived greenriver a couple times at holmes bend.very poor viz both times.but it mite be better at the dame. i don't know :shakehead:

Hi Chris. Never dove the Green river...we dive Dale Hollow lake weekly. Now that the water is down the viz is looking real good. We dove last weekend and had a blast! If you have a boat...venture out!
We dive Loch Low Minn some also. the paddlefish are fun. PM me if you want a link to some photos of the lake and the Quarry8^)
