I just picked up two lights that came with 21700 batteries, one a flat top, the other a USB charge button top. I want to get backup batteries, but not sure which brands to avoid. I had 18650s relatively down, but I’m not finding any of my go-to brands in this category on Liion Wholesale. Vapcell seems to be their big brand. Any help on this subject is appreciated.

Erik

Nitecore is good, also XTAR and Panasonic.
Make sure it is protected.
Avoid anything with Fire in the name....

I haven’t encountered a bad 21700 yet, I have the Liion and they seem great, they hold a charge for months without doing any self discharge. I have the batteries that cam in wurkos lights that have been great too along with orca, and a few other generic type that can with the cx3 and the DGX light, unlike 18650 and 26650 where I’ve bought more bad ones than good.

With the increased popularity of the 21700 I’m sure we may start seeing junk one of these days.

Yeah, I’m hanging on to the ones that came with them, just wasn’t sure about backups. Even the batteries on Battery Junction that fit the profiles that I’m looking for are mostly Jetbeam brand (?) or 4000mAh. Most of the Nitcore, and all of the Xtar, on their website are discontinued. So, just get what I can.

Thanks all,
Erik

Generally the Samsung cells are fine. Just match the max current draw that you need.

Talk to me as if I know nothing about batteries, because I know nothing about batteries. Which spec indicates max current draw?

I use Orbtronic batteries mostly, very happy. Not sure if they have 4000mAh, I use 5000mAh high drain ones. They came up with high perf flashlight batteries recently, didn't have a chance to check them out yet.
