I Got A New Tattoo This Past Thursday. I Was Wonder If I Went Dive This Soon If It Might Cause Problems Or Get Infected, It Doesnt Seem To Be Open Or Scabbed Over, But It Is Still Sore And Small Peices Of Dry Skin Are Flaking Off.

Put something oil based on it to keep it moist but also the water off and wrap in a gauze and it should be fine.

I wouldnt go into the pool but other than that your fine the chlorine so they say will affect the color but regular waters are fine ( so my tattoo guy has told me )

Its in your best interest to wait. The potential for infection is always there, and plus, why risk messing up your new tatoo?

I have several and my tat artist has told me not to go in the water for at least a week. It's ok to shower bathe etc but constant submersion such as when diving not only increases the chance of infection but may also cause unneccessary fading of the inks depending on color, amt, depth of color penetration(some artists don't go as deep and it takes longer for the color to take hold or so I'm told) etc. My rule is if it's still peeling keep it dry other than bathing and I also apply bacitracin or vaseline intensive care lotion until the peeling stops. I still moisturize with lotion of some kind on a regular basis. keeps the colors nice and seems to lessen the scarring.

If you have to dive (which I wouldn't do, wait until healed), why not put on some liquid band aid, comes in both spray and tincture.
I went in when mine wasn't healed and got no infection but a tiny bit of scarring.

my tat guy told me no diving for 2 weeks, which coincidentally ( ) was when it stopped peeling.

Yet one more reason to dive dry!

How a Tattoo works is that the needle puts ink, below the skin (or in between certain layers of skin), the actual ink powder in the ink binds with the cells (maybe red blood cells-my memory is a little foggy) and the body dispells the water that was mixed in the ink.
This is partly why new tattoo's scab over and peel. If you pick the scabs you can get colour fade and patchy parts.
Salt water is great for healing cuts and abrasions (if clean obviously:D ) and I for one would be wary about constant immersion for the fact that it might heal your tattoo too well. While you do want it to heal you also want it to leave ink behind for great colours and also so it doesnt appear "patchy".
I imagine rubbing on neoprene would pull the scabs and give colour or patchiness issues as well.

Give it a while before diving. Tattoo's are an investment and it always pay to error on the side of caution with investments...especially if you want them to look pretty:D
