A friend of mine created a new certification called Studio Divers. This course is designed to teach you about bouyancy, lift bags, set placement & the nuances of studio diving. If you are interested please go to http://www.teamthreestudiodivers.com/ for more information.

3 Studio Divers are a Signatory Company of IATSE. We specialize in SCUBA and water related needs. We are the ONLY signatory company authorized to work with Local 44, but we are Local 80 members as well. The great thing is that we are authorized to work with all of the other IATSE Locals.

We can supply you with any of your SCUBA and water related needs. From Coordination to safety divers, from rigging to construction, virtually anything to do with the water, we can handle it.

I don't get it. Sorry. Explination? (what's "studio diving?")

Mike,

This is "studio" as in "movie studio". We have a lot of those here in SoCal. ;)

So, studio divers would be the guys that work to create the underwater scenes that you see in movies. The IATSE is the labor union representing technicians, artisans and craftspersons in the entertainment industry, including live theatre, motion picture and television production, and trade shows.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the heads-up HH. Wow, diving and movie stars all in one! Sounds like a blast! I'm in. Anyone want to fly me out from Nashville, TN?

Mike

I am a proud IATSE member of 22 years. My specialty is theatrical production. Most recently I was the head electrician for the First National touring company of "The Producers". I have done some limited television and feature film work, just enough to know that live theatre is more to my liking.

Wonky me -- being married to an artist, I took it as "atelier diving" when I first read it. That sounded a little precious, but the real explanation makes much more sense .... :-)
