Aloha. Bought a brand new Scuba Pro MK25/S600 regulator in October. It's a beautiful regulator, but during the first two dives it had a major whistle every time I inhaled for the first half of the tank. I've made a few more dives with it, and now it only whistles for the first couple of minutes, then the whistle goes away. I'm hoping it will gradually diminish until it goes away altogether, but is this normal? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'd call Scubapro about the problem. I bought a set of new Brut regs a while back that had a humming coming from the second stage on exhale. I checked with the seller and Sherwood and they didn't have an answer so I sent them in and when they came back it wasn't doing it anymore. Don't know if they replace the second stage or what but satisfied me.

Try leaving it pressurized for a few hours or overnight, haven't dealt with the pistons, but I know on my Diaphragms I've had them whistle until the seats settle. Mine still croak if I'm at the surface and they are mouthpiece down though. Might just be an IP problem or something stupid like that. Take it to your LDS and have a WTF moment with them

I bought the same setup about a year ago. When I first got it, it had a bit of a whistle. I used it a few times, and it became just a slight whistle when i draw air in very quickly. I haven't used it since it's one year service, but I am curious to see if it still does it.

I have not. Does the reg hold pressure? Test it by hooking it up to a tank and leave it open for 1 hour then shut the tank off and see if it holds pressure. It should hold full tank pressure for hours (4hrs) if It drops anything in the first 15mins then send it to get serviced or replaced.

This may have to do with the 1st Stage spring. I vaguely remember something similar in the past but not sure of the details.

I spent a week diving with a group on Roatan, and one of the divers had a whistling regulator. This was THE most annoying thing I have ever experienced underwater.

My advice is not to use it until it's fixed. This whistling is extremely dangerous. Other divers will do ANYTHING to make it stop!

Thanks so much for the suggestions and advice. I like the advice of Saxplayer1004 and LakeCountyDiver, I think I'll leave it pressurized for a while and see if that helps. I'm fairly optimistic since the whistle has diminished on every dive (four total) since I bought it. Thanks again, you guys are awesome.

Whistling on inhale from a balanced piston first usually indicates a need for lubrication of the HP piston o-ring. Lubing the o-ring and flipping the spring seems to be a fairy common cure. I believe the extra friction sets up a resonance as the piston rapidly opens and closed during the inhale which creates the noise.

I suggest a trip back to the dealer for a good lubrication of that o-ring.

Exactly!!!! Thank you!!

The Spring should be flipped!! If the problem should continue, SP Tech. should be contacted.
