Hello all;

I want to buy a new reg. Now I use a Mares Proton 12 and at depths greater than 70' it is not comfortable.

I want to buy a very good reg. I am a recreational diver (30 dives) who dives every week end. I don't plan to go into tech.

What a reg to buy if money is not an issue?

Thanks

Look for something that has very low breathing resistance. Mine is an overbalanced Aqualung Legend ACD - it has almost no breathing resistance at all, and has a venturi adjustment to minimize breathing resistance even more. The model just above mine has a manual adjustment to adjust the breathing resistance (air delivery) for use at greater depths and when using different breathing mixes, but I can't really see why it's necessary given this regulator almost breathes by itself, and I dont use special mixes just yet.

I agree with Mike, the Aqualung Legend ACD is an Easy Breather. I use the Aqualung Legend LX ACD (one step up), the breathing couldn't be easier. I've increased by bottom time significantly since I started using it.

Hi Icarusflies,
There are many good regs out there, so you're going to get a lot of different recommendations at different price ranges. Why not check out a few objective tests of major models done by ScubaLabs (of Rodale's Scuba Diving):

Also, price doesn't always imply quality. There are some regs under $200 that perform as well as some priced twice or more. Other factors to consider are swivels at 1st and 2nd stages and mouthpieces, but these can usually be added/changed once you decide on the reg you want.
Dive safely.

Thank you for the replays....what do you think about the dive rite regs....looks like many people like them

Couple things

Your Mares Mr12 should have ZERO problems at that depth.

Diverite is a solid reg.

Aqualung Legends breath great

The Oceanic Delta 4/FDX10 breaths better than the Legend and at a lower price point the GT3/CDX5 breaths better than the Dive Rite:D

Yes, people like them but if easy breathing is your main criteria for a new reg then these are not what yu want. The balanced Diverite breaths OK but if ease of breathing is what you want look at Apeks, Legend and the top scubapros, Atomic, zeagle. People like diverite because it is rubust, reliable, easy to service and afordable.

I use an Apeks ATX50. It is about the same as a Legend. Both are now Aqualung.

My opinion is that all name brand regs are good as long as they have a balalnced first and second stage. Yes there are differences but they are minor.

i use a dive rite reg as a backup reg, it seems pretty nice, noisy but delivers air. my primary is scubapro mk20 with g250, i would highly suggest the mk25 with g250 if you dont mind a big second stage

im a fan of the delta 4 you've got to try 1.

Money's no object?????

Atomic T2 at about $1400, but it is a really sweet reg!
