I've been snorkelling off the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for a few years when we visit my in-laws and my wife gave me the OWD class as a Father's Day gift this year.

I finished my OWD certification dives 24-Aug-03. I'm still waiting for my card to arrive, but I'm taking the Advanced class and will be back at Gilboa Quarry on 20/21-Sep-03 for the AOWD cert.

I'd love to find another diver in the greater Cincinnati area to do some quarry dives before the season ends.

In addition to the basics, I have already bought a 5/3 wetsuit and a Suunto Mosquito wristop computer and have a wish list going for BC and reg. I'll be getting lights for the night dive part of my Adv. cert within a week so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Any tips for places to dive in/around Ft.Lauderdale? Since neither my wife nor kids are divers (yet...), I'll be stuck with commercial dive trips next spring unless someone can give me some better options (not that I'm planning to avoid the dive trips!!)

Check out the KPP section on this board.

There's a quarry about 1 hour south of you called "Falling Rock"....they affectionatly refer to it as Joe's Quarry....Joe owns/operates the place (I use the term operates loosely....if you meet him, you'll understand).

At any rate, I am planning on being at Gilboa on the 20th of this month for the OXY wings demo days, as well as seeing someone I might happen to know teach a class (but not you AOW class).

Also, you'll probably find some fairly avid divers in the KPP section, as well as some up here in the Dayton OH area...I wish I could dive more often, but things are going to be on hold for about another year (second kid/new house/etc. etc.), but I am going to try and dive as much as I can.

Welcome to the board, and I hope you enjoy your stay here....

I'm going to be with Underwater World's cert. trip. They normally set up near/between docks 4 & 5 at Gilboa. Until I get a picture in my profile, you can see me in a picture with my OWD class. I'm the one in the gray/blue shirt, bald, moustache in the middle of the picture about 1/3 from the left. If you're passing by, say "Hi!"

O.K...what part of cincinnati are you from....I grew up in loveland/milford area in a small town called miami township.

Loveland according to my mail, but actually Deerfield Township. Isn't it neat when you can experience the world contract just a bit more!

Yeah....just what we need...more contraction...and more yeah-whooos like me in the water :haha:

So how far off of Branch-Hill Guinea Pike do you live? And what the hell is the deal with the Hilton Hotel at Wards Corner Rd exit??? We have no need for a Hilton Hotel in that area. (Seems as though I noticed that the last time I was home)

I'm not often going around I-275 that way, but a year or two ago a new golf course and conference center opened up in that general area, so my guess is the Hilton is anticipating future demand there.

I'm just north of Fields-Ertel where Lebanon Rd becomes Columbia Rd. If you know where Underwater World is, I'm about a mile down the road from there.

I see says me...

No, I don't know exactly where uw world is, b/c I only visit cincy on occasion now due to the fact I'm fairly rooted in Dayton, but it isn;t like it is a haul for me to head down there.

What kind of shop is UW world....do they do any technical stuff ?

As a matter of fact, I found out about uw world via your picture on their site....pretty neat pic, and I might check out the store next time I come down to my parents for a visit...I'm a bit jaded to the LDSs here in Dayton...we don't exactly see eye to eye as far as instruction is concerned, and someone wanted to pick out my gear for me and tell me I don't need tables...blah blah blah...o.k. before I start ranting, I'm letting it go.

Well, it seems like a small shop, but I don't yet have a lot of shops to compare against. They have a showroom that's about 15'x20', a classroom that holds about 12-14 max, and an a 10ft deep training pool in the back. (gotta run to a meeting... I'll put more later about instruction)
