Welcome to ScubaBoard. . . and the wild west of diving in Oklahoma's lakes. As a new diver, you'll have to learn, where and how to dive in our lakes. . . and right now the when. Our unusual rain and runoff have left parts of our lakes too muddy for a beginner to enjoy, but with some knowledge, you can still find visibility that will let you play with the fish.

Last week, Tenkiller was 6 to 8 feet above normal, with 2 foot visibility and 10 foot visibility depending on where you looked. Normally visibility this time of year should be 10 to 15 feet. . . With a boat you can get away from the crowded underwater park area and dive the islands near the dam. Sandy and rocky bottoms, near the old river chanel are still clear enough to play with the sunfish. As a beginner, these areas are shallow and let you get your bouyancy under control and gain those important early dives without too much excitement. Take down some earth worms, from any bait shop. . . pinch off a small piece away from you to give the fish a taste. Then play with the "ferocious" 2 to 3 inch fish. If you can get your wife in the water with a mask and snorkle she can join in the fun. Your early dives probably will include kicking the bottom, waving your hands, and rapid and irregular breathing. . . Like all the rest of us that have preceeded you under water. While you learn to move underwater, you can still enjoy these small fish, they will try to take your food away from you. . . when you can move around fish without scaring them, you will see the predators that hang around the edges.

There was an old TV show where the wise man told the student. . . snatch the pebble from my hand, grasshopper. Something impossible to do, comes easily when you have experience. If you go to Tenkiller, there are two dive shops with wise men that can help you choose dive sites and refill your tanks and rent anything you don't have with you.

Tuttle? Tuttle!? Nobody's from Tuttle. Do you have to drive across a crick (creek) to get to your house?
BTW, welcome to ScubaBoard. (It only gets better.)
