Hey Tammy and Welcome to the Board!

I can't offer any new advice on the BC shopping- the above people are all better informed than I am, but I am positive that all their advice is legitimate along with the advice of the rest of the people that might happen to post. A lot of people here have logged a lot of dives, so they know a lot better than I.

I think its very commendable that you went through the whole certification process with your son. How old is he, if you don't mind me asking? It's cool that you chose that as a way to bond- my dad and I are both scuba divers, and it's funny when we are talking about scuba diving in our own lingo and nobody else has any idea what we both are talking about :).

So I hope you find what you are looking for regarding the BC's, I'm sure they will help you make an informed decision. Good Luck!

Benvenuto a bordo from the middle of Mediterranean sea. :azvatar:

Once you start you can not stop. We all like the nitrogen in our blood…

Heya Tammy and welcome to the Board! This a great place to hang out during a SI. You’ll meet tons of new friends and dive buddies right here! This place has a wealth of knowledge to offer divers of any level. As for your BCD, if you can find a shop that will allow you to try it out before you buy it, do just that. I have the SeaQuest ProQD I like it, but I wish I would have went with the SeaQuest Balance instead. Good luck and let us know how you make out on the whole thing.
Best wishes !

Hello:
I am a new member along with being a new scuba diver. My son and I were recently certified and we flew down to Cancun for our first dive with clear visibility along with warm water. We had a terrific time. I was wondering what type of BC I need to purchase as a recreational diver? Any suggestions? Thanks, Tammy

Hello from Matt,

Welcome to ScubaBoard ! :1poke: I came here to look for help with my scuba diving dream and the response has been fantastic. So, I know you will enjoy being a member here.
There are a lot of nice and informative scuba divers. It's a good place to meet other divers and share experiences and dreams. Take care from Matt. :snorkels:

Congrats on your and your son's certification.

Asking about BCs her is a little like walking into a Washington bar and saying, "I've decided to vote this year. Any ideas on who I should vote for in the presidential election?"

In other words, there's lots of good information available, but it can seem a bit overwhelming at first.

A lot depends on how much diving you'll be doing and under what conditions. Other considerations revolve around body size and shape Some women prefer the women's BCs due to the differences in cut, while others prefer the tech diver stye backplate and wings, which is a bit more expensive and not necessary for open water recreational diving.

Take your time, look here, at your local dive shop (LDS) and on line. There are plenty of options and not too many bad ones.

Welcome to the board and to the sport. Your son may want to register too. I don't know how old he is, but we're developing quite a group of younger divers.

Best wishes and safe ascents,
Grier

That is what we all are here to do. I'm glad the viz in Cancun was great. Maybe you could post a report of your trip in the Mexico forum.

Howdy! :usa_2:

I'd join the others in welcoming you to SB, and I do hope you'll enjoy your surface intervals here.

I think the others have answered your questions well enough, so I'll just ask you to PM me if I can help.

Zack it is nice to hear from you. My son is 12 and we are both excited about diving. This was his summer camp. We had a great time during the certification process, went to Cancun and are looking forward to many dives together.

Hi Tammy and welcome to the board! I think most everyone has said the right thing (i.e., EVERYONE has an opinion). I'd go along with most and say try several brand/types, etc. The equipment and women's forum can probably help a lot. I just posted on my experience with a harness/wing system, if you care to look.

Again, Welcome aboard!
