Hey! So I arrived in Playa and start my IDC in November... in the mean time I would love some local knowledge on 'must sees' (both in and out of the water)... hit me with your best shot :D

Don't miss Ek Balam, north northeast of Valladolid, even if you don't care for Mayan ruins, the art is worth the trip.

If you are a carnivore, try both El Fogon and HC Monterrey. Right across Constituyentes from the Mega.

Get with the people at CEA, Centro Ecológico Akumal | Ecology Center CEA | Quintana Roo | Mexico. They do turtle walks along the beaches in Akumal during nesting season.

There several interesting ruin sites that I enjoyed touring in the area: Chichen Itza first thing in the morning before the tours arrive after spending the night in the delightful Mayaland hotel at the back entrance, and still have plenty of time for nearby Ek Balam. Coba ruins are on the way so you might do them one morning, spend the night at CI, then return after making all three. Rent a car with full coverage cheaply at Easy Way Cancun Car Rental: your Cancun Airport Rental Car Too bad you didn't get the Mayan Adventure map before you left; would you like for someone bring it down to you?

I wonder if the Whale sharks are still around? Wonder experience snorkeling with them; you might ask locally. You could visit Holbox after Ek Balam as it's a neat village to visit but the Dominoes can be chased out of many ports.

Tulum area cenotes and Cozumel reefs are super diving of course.
