My concern regarding the safety is not purging the reg. It is about an entanglement hazard caused by adding an unnecessary hook shaped protrusion to a piece of life support equipment. The same goes for increasing the changes of getting your reg kicked out of your mouth because it is now double the size.
Attached are some common regulator designs it won't fit. I don't have a pic of mine handy but it comes to a V shaped flange where your clamp would go.
