Hello All,

I've been prowling around the board for a while and wanted to say hello. I'm from Columbia MD and got certified earlier this summer (12 whole dives so far). I must say that I have found this board to be very helpful in getting started with the sport. So how do you guy and gals cope with winter here? I ussually enjoy the season but not that I have my cert I'm feeling a certain sense of dread.

In dive withdraw,
Jim

Once you're certified and hooked on diving, I think the only way to survive winter is to book a dive trip -- I try to hold out til March, and head for Bonaire. But this year, I already have a trip booked for December because my last dive was in August, and I just can't wait longer than that.

I use the winter to get all of my equipment serviced & inspected. It's also a great time to VIP and hydro all of your tanks.

I also took trips the last two years. Since I can dive at home in the summer, winter is a good time to go someplace warmer.

Yeah, that's what I figured. So I'm going to Puerto Rico in February. And then Millbrook opens back up in April so that's no time at all. But that's a hell of a long time from now and I don't want to be out of practice for PR, so I figured I'd go down to the Keys in December. But even that is really long from now, and if I'm going to dive the Spiegel Grove in December then I'd better get down to NC in, say a week or two, to keep my licks up. Oh, and then there is that Cavern Class at Ginnie Springs in January. I almost forgot, there's... Hm.

I wonder when I'm going to get my reg serviced?

I have never done it before, but some members go frequently to Mt. Storm Lake during the winter.
The lake’s water could reach 90 degrees if the three generators are running. Also, there are special procedures to dive there because it associates with altitude dive.
If Dmdalton is around, he would be able to give us more information and maybe we can go to Mt. Storm together in the winter.

Thanks for the welcome hopefully I will be able to make some meaningful contributions around here soon. Mt. Storm sounds interesting but awfully cold once you get out of the water.

BTW, if anyone was at Millbrook this past weekend, I was on beach one finishing my AOW dives both afternoons. I was with the two little kids if anyone saw us.
