Hi everyone, Just wanted to say Hello from Southern California. I am new here and look forward to interacting and possibly diving with some of you!

I am a Certifed Padi Rescue Diver. My own personal goal is to be DM by the summer.

I enjoy beach as well as boat dives off the Southern California Coast. I am one of the very few woman divers out there that actually like cold water! LOL I dive with a 7mil and no hood. :150:

Here's a question: what is your favorite SoCal beach dive and why??? Looking forward to your responses!

Welcome to the board from sunny Gozo, Malta. Sorry never dived in California. Let us know what its like and, who knows. I am diving in a semi dry at the moment but cannot wait till summer and a shorty.

Jan,

I have a friend who is a instructor in orange county. I think he dives one of the beaches in Laguna called Shaws. If you like I could find out some other beach dives for you from him. Where exactly do you live?

And welcome to SB. :wavey: Put us in your Favorites and check in often.

BTW, what is a "Recreation Therapist," anyway? Are we talking serious playing around here...? :54:

Hi everyone, Just wanted to say Hello from Southern California.

First of all, hi Jan - and welcome to the board.

You're gonna love it here. However, in order to effectively communicate, we need to be sure we're speaking the same language. I could be wrong on this, but it looks like you're from OCal, but you consider yourself a So Cal.

That's akin to people from Jersey saying they're New Yorkers. Its not just another state, its another planet.

I've provided a couple of geography lessons to help clear things up. The original context was attempting to help a former NoCal with his acclimation to his new home in So Cal - but you'll get the idea. I hope this will assist in translating OCal into legitimate So Cal vernacular.

Again, welcome and have fun on the largest and most prestigeous Scuba Board on the web.

Okay, Ken!
This IS Southern California! Enough of your L.A. elitism thing
SOCAL SOCAL SOCAL I refuse to recognize your delineations. Grew up in San Diego and now I live in O.C. I am further south than you!!!!! :blahblah: New Jersey/New York????!!!!! C'mon bra, this is So Cal! Orange County is no longer part of LA and we have moved beyond, you need to too :nonono:
Cajan, don't listen to Ken's twisted geography of whimsy! His compass is off on this one!
See you in on Saturday in Avalon, Ken?
P.S.: Brian Wilson never surfed so his opinion on the matter accounts for squat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the reply. I enjoy California diving for the diversity of marine life that the pacific coast has to offer. I have dove in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Cabo San Lucas however, California holds true to my heart. I especially like diving off of the oil rig platforms. All kinds of color underneath on the giant 'erector' sets.

Welcome to ScubaBoard!

Although I do not agree with Ken's shunning of Orange County and his geographic delineations, they are funny to read! (To those of us here in So Cal who know what he is referring to, anyway!) You'll find he lends a humorous perspective to lots of topics!

See you in Avalon!

Hi there, thanks for the post. I have alot of friends who are instructors in Orange County, LA County, and Riverside County. Who is your friend??? I may know them! What a small world if that were true. I live in Anaheim, about 20 minutes or so from Laguna. I have dove Shaw's numerous times. In fact, I might be diving there tomorrow night! It's a great spot for night diving. I saw a bug that had to be about 15 to 20 pounds!!! No lie! My buddy saw it too, and signed my log book! Let me know if you ever get out this way!

Hi Don,

Thanks for the welcome!!! Aghhhhhhhhhh...I just knew someone would ask what a Recreation Therapist was. Ugh.... Let's just say, I get paid to play at work; physically, emotionally, and cognitatively.

I scuba to ease the stress of my job. ROTFLOL :microwav:

Have a good one!
