Sorry for the newbie question, this is my first dive computer, I'm wondering if these have to do with age, bodyfat, etc. The altitude setting reduces the first dive no deco limit by an amount that is the same as the P settings. Can someone explain this to me?

You pretty much get the concept of the personal setting already, Bob. If you're old and fat, adjust the setrtings. The Gekko (all Suunto computers) are VERY conservative compared to other computers to begin with, and the setting take that to higher levels of conservative-ness. I'm 5-9, 200lbs and I leave mine on P-0, and in Minnesota, our altitude doesnt require adjustment either.

Be safe diving and use your head with the brains that are in it.

Thanks. Whew, minnesota! I thought puget sound was cold. You guys probably need emergency procedures in case of after dive stiffening.

Its making sure the thermos jug has the warm water to get the drysuit zipper un-froze that is the tough part!

btw...I've had a Cobra, mosquito, vyper and now a Vyper2 for computers.
