I took the 9pm ferry over on March 14th. It was very nice and seemed pretty new. Hardwood floors, leather seats and even some booths with tables like at a nice nightclub. I paid the regular fare and didn't see a first class section.

Anyone been on the new ferries, or in the "first class" section.
Geez Gary soon it will be one hour for the crossing.
Looks like it's making a morning crossing difficult, boats now leave later and travel slower, this is the downside to a lack of competition. May have to plan on skipping out of work early and flying directly into Cozumel for weekend trips:mad:

Anyone know if they allow bicycles on the ferry? I haven't explored Cozumel in several years, but I don't want to rent a car or take cabs everywhere.

Yes they do. You check them in back with luggage.

Sweet, thanks. I usually spend 2-3 weeks in the Yucatan and buying a bike is cheaper than renting. I try to ride everywhere to work off all the beer/tequila/great food.

Took the ferry over last Saturday night from Playa for the first time since the new security protacols were put in place. Basically there are two magnatometer arches that the passengers walk thru. There are no actual scanners. Pasengers and bags pass together and no alarms go off. I watched one passenger with a dive bag go through and it only registered one extra segment on the bar graph at the top of the arch. I found it very humerous, a knight in armor would not have set it off. A couple of young local guys were pulled out for random screening but nothing more. Security theater at it's finest.

Don't tell that to that US gov't agency that keeps issuing travel warnings...
