If you've been on the Coz/PDC ferry recently, can you post your experiences? I'll be down in a few weeks and need to know what to prepare for. I used to take the 6:45 am Barcos ferry to dive with Aldora in the mornings, but that isn't an option any more.

Specifically looking for prices (have they been raised?) morning timetable and boarding wait times. Thanks!

March 15/18 playa to Cozumel 160 pesos 1 way. No delays boarding nothing different that I could see.
March 22/18 Cozumel to Playa 80 pesos 1 way had to walk thru metal detector but other than that nothing different.

How'd you get the 80 peso 1 way Coz-PDC ticket? I need to ride with them.

That is what they were charging at the time I bought the ticket. I would assume the price war is still alive from time to time.

I was there March 14th to 19th, used Ultramar and was 160 each way, was slightly less for RT but didn't bother. Hadn't been on the ferry in years and one of the boats was really new and super luxurious, looked like a nice nightclub on the inside. The first ferry is 7am Routes and Timetables :: Ultramar. There was extra visible security but only went thru a metal detector on the way back and they were searching some locals bags but not tourists.

Did you use the 7AM and if so what was the arrival time? One of the things I did notice about Ultramar and WaterJets, was that when they were competing with Barcos Caribe they seem to kick the speed up so that the transit times were closer to 30 min as opposed to the previous non-compete dualopoly times that were closer to 45 minutes. The reason I ask is to see if it is still viable to grab the first ferry from Playa and still make an 8AM dive boat. 30 minute transit would be yes, 45 minutes and it would be cutting it close.

No, I took a later ferry but it’s definitley 45 min total by the time you get on and off. Aldora leaves at 730am sharp but you’ll probably make an 8am boat and worst case can hop in a cab and catch the boat at some hotel stops on the way south.

Here's another data sample:

Ultramar finished boarding at 9:10pm last evening and the gangplank was out in Cozumel at 10:02.

Metal detector unused with a guy in uniform sitting next to it as passengers walked past.

No other change in protocol.
