Thanks for the warm welcome!
We went out to Clear Springs SCUBA Park @ Terrell.
Saturday we had good vis around 25 feet, and the piranana Perch were out in full force
My wife and I experienced some "Buddy" issues that I think we learned from, and thank god it was in a "controlled" environment and not the big blue. Here's my run down if ya care to read:
Dive 1: Outstanding! Was great to be @ 20-25ft and breathing. We did some quick skills on top of our training platform, which was the Fuselage of an American-Eagle "puddle jumper" airplane, was quite cool. Then we did a quick tour and surfaced.
Dive 2: Lots of skills on top of the plane.
Dive 3: more skills, navigation, and a quick tour....during which yours truley decided to exhale through his nose and flood his mask :-/ in doing so we were in about 12ft of water, and silt was getting kicked up all over the place, so I cleared my mask and looked around and my wife (dive buddy) was gone! Well, the instructor was in the rear (DM was leading tour) He saw that I lost my Dive buddy (and rest of group for that matter due to poor vis), so he took me back to the plane(about 15ft away) and surfaced to find my Wife waiting for me (she followed the rules great!), of course I was told later how it was my fault
Dive 4: Outstanding...a tour, more skills, lots of bouyancy & nav, the the emergency controlled swimming ascent...was a piece of cake and WOO HOO I'm certified!
Dive 5 (National Geographic): Lots and lots of buddy team navigation, compass & terrain. Aquatic wildlife documentation, etc...During our Navigation, my wife ascended suddenly, so I went up to check on her, and signed her ears needed equalizing, then she bolted down...well I went to go down and I couldn't equalize :/ this is a first for me because I NEVER have to equalize, it comes natural for me... so she wasn't worrying about me being able to equalize so she swam on and left me! :-/ So I surfaced and waited...she came up then I got my turn in harrassing her
Lessons learned:
Check your buddy often!
Even the person that equalizes the easiest can have issues :-/
But....I'm certified!
About my name
Old name I've used forever... I'm orig. from Myrtle Beach, S.C. And I love to surf, be it the steady 2-3ft waves or the constant 8ft barrels on Pawley's Island's point break when a hurricane is sitting off shore! I have a good friend from Cali, and we are going to head that way one day so that we can surf lower Trestles & Mavericks although now that I'm married it's much harder to be "allowed" to do these dangerous things
