I'm a new diver based in San Diego, so my exposure has been cold water, surf and boat. I've been diving with an IDI Nectron, new (I know the company closed it's doors, but it was a good deal, less than 4 rentals, it's paid for itself). I've just purchased an IDI SASSY off e-bay. I aslo talked to a guy in a shop, and he scared me. Told me the SASSY is ok for warm water, but for cold, I would want something else, given the weight of the 7mm suit and weights. So I don't know if he wanted to sell me something else, or was he correct?

I wear from 26# to 32# of weight, given my mood of the day. (heavy breathing vs, cool and calm). The Nectron has lift of 30 - 35 LBs in my size (men's xs-m). I was told the SASSY had only a 20# lift capability, but I can't find any information on this.

What is the preference of a back bladder vs a vest or wrap around out there, and why?

Please no comments about trying a bp/w. I need to practice more with what I have. 8-)

Welcome to the board..............hope you got the purple. That is a lot of weight, sure you need so much??? Don't know what kind of diving you do.

There are days that I do, I'm relatively new, (10 dives), my weight requires 24# +/-, but some days I'm still a bit nervous, so I breath heavier and am more boyant. Other days, I have not issues. I can dive down to 12+ feet with 24# - 26#, I'm working on getting there with less.

I'm certifying in nitrox, and doing the 'deep diver' with my instructor in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the chart, but how do I interpret it, if the weight, with uninflated bc has my head barely under water. Do I really need higher buoyancy?

Welcome....you have found a place to get your questions answered. And BTW, I started using a BP/W after ~10 dives. It was a question of fit. Anyhow, Welcome :dazzler1:
