New CAL plane for Brac flights arrives Friday :: Cayman Compass

---------- Post added August 14th, 2015 at 11:31 AM ----------

For our upcoming trip, when we fly from GC to LC we will take the De Havilland Dhc6 Twin Otter with no stops; but on the way back from LC to GC we will stop on CB - does anyone know if we will have to change planes after we arrive on CB? We are flying back on a Sunday.

Yes, you almost certainly will be switching planes if you go through the Brac. You should be able to check your reservation details and see what plane you are shown on. I believe they are no longer flying the Twin Otters between Brac and GC. The Twin Otters are only used for flights that take off or land on LC.

I will warn you that we went through a lot of trouble last year when they made the switch to the Embraer. Their computer saw the deletion of some of the Twin Otter flights and started rebooking people automatically onto different flights, that in many cases made no sense whatsoever. Each time they made a subsequent change to the flights, it would happen again. I think I had to call three different times in the few weeks before our trip last fall to get them to correct an automatic rebooking. Make sure you have a good email and phone number in your profile with your reservation so you get a prompt notice if your flights get changed. I resorted to just checking the reservation manually every couple of days to make sure nothing was changing without notice.

++++++++++++++++
Update: I just looked at our booking, and the CAL schedule, and there are still several flights, including ours, that go through CB, but don't change planes. So I would look at your reservation. If it shows one flight number from LC to GC (such as 4422), with one stop, you will likely stay on the Twin Otter and not have to deplane at all. If you have two flight numbers, such as 44XX/1004, and it shows you currently on the Embraer for the CB to GC leg, then yes, you are going to have to deplane and go through the xray machine on CB before flying to GC on the new Saab plane.

Thanks, we had some issues with CAL flight changes last year when we visited CB. We have already been screwed this year for our upcoming flights by American Airlines, and have been notified that we will have a 5 hour interval on GC (instead of 3 hours) when we fly home from LC in November.

Right now my itinerary only shows one CAL flight on the De Havilland Twin Otter for our return from LC, although we will have one stop (obviously on CB although it is not listed). But now that Cayman Air has bought a new, larger plane and is no longer leasing the Embraer, I wouldn't be surprised to see additional changes in our flights.
