Friends:
I have a new 496 page hardbound book that has just been released to both the diving market and mainstream bookstores. Its a large, high quality coffee-table style volume profiling 20 of divings most interesting characters in a series of lengthy interviews. My goal was to capture the essence of these amazing careers through the process of these dialogues and shed some very personal perspective on those that helped to shape diving history. Its full color and illustrated with a wonderful archive of photographic images from each persons career. The title is Diving Pioneers & Innovators: A Series of In-Depth Interviews; brought to you by New World Publications Inc. of Jacksonville, FL.
It includes interviews with Bob Ballard, Peter Benchley, Dick Bonin, Ernie Brooks, John Chatterton, Mike deGruy, Al Giddings, Bret Gilliam, Howard Hall, Michele Hall, Bob Hollis, Paul Humann, Gregg MacGillivray, Bev Morgan, Chuck Nicklin, Ron & Valerie Taylor, Zale Parry, Wes Skiles, and Stan Waterman.
The book has been warmly greeted by all reviewers and been picked up for special sale offerings by the Divers Alert Network (DAN), the Historical Diving Society, Diving Adventure and Undercurrent magazines in the U. S., Diver magazine in Canada and England, and Unterwasser in Germany. The book retails for $60.
It's available on Amazon and through leading bookstores. You can also order one directly from me and Ill sign and personalize each copy to the buyer. I know youll love the book and several critics have said it will become a collectors item especially if I manage to get killed in a plane crash or hot tub tragedy shortly after I sign your copy.
Payment has to be made by check: payable to Bret Gilliam or Oceans Media. Price is $75 and that includes UPS shipping to your address.
A portion of these sales will go to benefit the Diving Legacy Foundation that I set up last year to provide financial support and honorariums to deserving industry pioneers. The 2007 Diving Pioneers Award from DLF went to Stan Waterman with a $25,000.00 check.

Putting this book together has been one of the great pleasures of my career. There are some truly amazing stories told within the pages and it was a privilege to have known these characters over the years. I think youll find that it will enrich your appreciation of diving and provide some previously unrevealed insights into the unique personalities of the original pioneers that led the way for all of us.
The book also includes many of divings second generation. And I finally caved in to my publishers and Stan Waterman and sat for my own interview. Lets just say that I had to wait until I retired before I could be as forthcoming about a lot of events in my own career. I promise youll get more than a chuckle or two from my own narrative!
Many thanks for your support over the years and I look forward to seeing many of you again in 2008 after a three-year layoff, I re-start my dive expedition programs to the best sites around the world.
Cheers!
