Here's a 'Heads Up' for anyone who likes to read about wreck diving. At Beneath the Sea this year, I met an author by the name of Robert Kurson. Towards the end of June, his book 'Shadow Divers' will be coming out. I happened to get a reader's copy and was really impressed. He goes in a lot of detail of the effort that John Chatterton and Richie Kohler went through in order to solve the mystery of the U-Who. I can't wait until it comes out so that I can get my own copy. Just thought I'd pass the info along. The book fills in a lot of the details that you can't put into a 2 hour NOVA/PBS special.

Does he mention at all any of the people that lost there lives trying to discover the identity of that u-boat? I looked at the website also and saw the ad for the Shadow Divers book, I was just wondering if Chris and Chrissy got any mention in these books.

Look forward to reading it

The book goes into more detail about the u-869 expedition than TLD. While he doesn't go into infinite detail about the C & C Rouse like TLD, i was surprised to learn about the other close calls during dives on the u-869. Plus, there are some differences about who said what between TLD and shadow divers. Particularly in the case of the USCG rescue jumper and John Chatterton during the Chris and Chrissy's incident.

Sounds like it should be interesting. I have watched the NOVA presentation several times. What also makes it intersting, one of my friends from the LDS was involved in many of those dives.

Well, the book is out and I've got my copy, what a great read I'm halfway through it already. There's a very interesting description of nitrogen narcosis in the beginning and the descriptions of the dives take you right there. I've just gotten to the part where Chris and Chrissy joined the team and I'm sure I'll be through the rest of the book in no time. Is anyone else reading it?

I just finished reading Shadow Divers book this past weekend and I thought the same thing. The Book "last Dive" recounts that exchange just the oppisite of the way this book does.

Heard a special on NPR about this book, kind of a mini-radio drama. It was interesting hearing the NPR folks describe wreck diving and the lifestyle of these adventurers.

I'll be getting the book soon.

NPR's site should still have a link in their archive from last week:

I just picked it up yesterday and read the first couple of chapters. Pretty good so far, and since I'm taking a few days off I should have plenty of time to finish it by the end of the week, so I will save my final thoughts until then.
