ShoalDiverSA:Mitten Diver (or Tobin),
Would you please describe what is meant by this statement (from the DSS website):
I am a bit wary of hook and loop (aka velcro) involved in a harness system. I am interested in the Pro Fit harness, but this aspect worries me. I am sure that I have the wrong end of the stick.
Cheers,
Andrew
Hi Andrew,
No need to be concerned. Our adjustable harness has upper shoulder straps that loop through the "polypoint" rings and then double back on themselves. Might be a bit hard to follow the discription, sorry.
Each upper shoulder strap is lined with about 30 inches of "all in one" hook and loop fastener. This a type of hook and loop that is "all hook" and "all loop", in other words it sticks to itself anywhere.
When the shoulder straps are in use at least 12 inches and usually more, of this hook and loop is pressed together because it is on the inside surfaces of the strap. By inside I don't mean against the diver, I mean against itself, as the strap "doublesback" on itself.
The load is all carried in shear, no peel. Shear means the two surfaces are trying to slide past each other, velcro is strongest in shear.
If I can make a request. I'm more than happy to anwser questions, but I may not read every post of every thread. If you have a question please PM me so I'm aware of it.
Thanks,
Tobin
