Hello,

I'm just new to diving, getting my open-water certificate this weekend. I'm also into 4x4 off-roading in my '98 Jeep, and I'm hoping to combine the two hobbies. One overlap I see is in the need to "air up" my tires after an off-road adventure, and the fact that there should be air left in my tank after diving.

Does anyone have any experience with this, and/or have any recommendations as to equipment that would suite the two activites?

Welcome to scubaboard DaR.
Good luck with getting the ticket and then there is the whole world to enjoy. Sorry but I have no experience of getting air from diving tanks to tires - and mostly I don't have much left at the end of a dive !

Welcome DRuffer,
I have a twin brother in Campbell. I know you can get a adapter for your low pressure inflator hose with quick connect so you can put air from your tank into your tires. Hope all goes well with your dives this weekend, and have fun.

Welcome to the board!

I can see it - you have 500# left in each tank after diving, and you use an adapter to fill your tires again. Be sure to dive with an experienced buddy, after checking the conditions and all...

Campbell is real close. Does your brother dive too?

I managed to get through my certification this weekend. I'm way too out of shape to do many beach exits, but in time, it gets easier, right? ;)

I've seen the low pressure adaptor, but I worry about all the dust involved in 4x4 runs getting into all that equipment. Maybe another 1st stage with just a low pressure hose would be better. Can you buy just the 1st stage?

Thanks to all who responded, and glad to see there's at least 1 other 4x4 enthusiest here.

Older first stages can be pretty cheap in some situations. You would not need to worry about annual servicing if you're just using it to bleed air of off a tank into a tire.

However, I don't think it necessary, still. I think you can keep the dust out of the lower pressure hose while using the adapter...?? Maybe...?
