It's in PV....if you turn off PV Dr W at Hawthorne and follow the road around, there's a "trail" that goes down to the water. It's cool for free diving, but for scuba, I'd much prefer Marineland.

I hear you...but Marinelands reef structure is a lot less interesting. Its pinnacles are basically uniform, tall and round. The structure of the pinnacles at Neptunes is varied like a mountain. Unless you are a bitchin freediver, I doubt you have seen the pinnacles first hand, as they are in 40foot + water.

A lot of people think we are crazy for making a dive like this from shore. I enjoy the challenge of it. I pride myself and my comrades on shore diving sites like this...it is a testament to how much we love diving and how far we are willing to go to explore remote parts of our coast. My girlfriend did this trail with me...you guys should seriously give this place a shot...boat or not. Cowboy/Cowgirl up...life is all about a challenge. If you don't have what it takes than...more reef for us =P

That is a great pic of the guitarfish!!! Is the viz pretty good there on a regular bases? I usually dive in and around laguna and every time I venture up to the malibu area I get horrible viz! But then again I usually go to Leo Cabrillo where the viz is hit and miss.

I would like to dive Malibu more often I just dont know enough people that know it very well and I heard that some of the diving could be a little difficult because of the current! Same thing with the Palos Verdes area (except Redondo Beach Kings Harbor).

There are certain things you need to know ie. entry and exit, current, parking, getting down the cliffs and knowing where the sea life is before you can dive these sites. Or am I mis-informed?

Your right. But sometimes going into the unknown can be fun. When I first dove Neptune's, I knew it was a dive spot and the general area to head in, but we had no knowledge of where to enter, where to drop down and what we'd find once we descended. This spot is a real treat for anyone willing to make the challenging hike, entry and surface swim. In my limited experience, Neptune's cove has had some pretty good visibility. Neptune's is situated between Pt.Vicente and Christmas Tree Cove on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This area is known for consistently good visibility "as long as the swell is down". I've noticed when entering over the rocks below the path that the initial waters are usually silty and have a lot of suspended particles in them. On all three dives it has been this way, but by the time we made our surface swim across the cove towards the pinnacles the visibility has dramatically opened up. 20ft has been the average visibility we've encountered, with one day pushing that towards 25-30ft in spots. All three dives were done in conditions that while good, were certainly not perfect. There was some surface chop and wind on one dive and mild rollers with surge on another. The third dive there also had a few rollers and was overcast. I can't wait till a nice window of uber conditions roll in, I can just imagine what the visibility will open up to then:)

Good point, I guess its all about the adventure!! And, if its not, then what's the point in Diving.
