hi every one. I just joined this site and this is my first post! Any way, i'm in the navy and currently serving overseas in the UK. I was cert. 1 1/2 years ago in FL. but haven't dove since i left the states. I'm going home for a few weeks and i'm sure i'll be diving while i'm there, but i feel like i need to brush up on the number side of things like at what air reading i need to start surfacing etc.. i can't find my old cert. book. and havne't been able to find basic info any where.

i know that dive shops usually charge for a refresher course but there are not any near where i am stationed. this is prob why i can't find the info online to. but if any one has a link that contains the type of info i'm looking for it would be much apreciated!

Depends on who you were certified through but 800 is a good number and it leaves you enough, if you are only doing recreation diving.

I saw a gret thread on this a while ago.

It was talking about rock bottom.

Doing a search on this would probably be a good place to start.

I'll see if I can pull it up.

Here's the link.

I had no idea about this before finding the thread and it really helped.

There's also an exel spread sheet kicking around that will calculate your tank pressures and capacities. With this it's easy to apply the equation to run various scenerios. If I can find this thread again I'll try to shoot you a copy.

I really should get back to work for now though. :15a:

I think you forgot to copy the link to the reply being that there is no link in your message. Can you repost it?

Any possibilty you can acquire some dive literature from ebay on BASIC O.W.

Or do the refresher in the UK. We do a lot of diving over here as well you know :)

I strongly suggest a refresher. If there is no shop in your area, perhaps an individual instructor, assistant instructor, or divemaster might live nearby. (In PADI, all three can do refreshers.) If you go to the UK area in this forum and ask, I bet you can find someone.

BTW, there is no clearly defined air pressure number for heading to the surface. A general rule of thumb is to be back on the surface with 500 pounds, but different ops may have different requirements. How do you know when to start up to arrive at the surface with 500 pounds? It depends upon how fast you consume air. That depends upon how deep you are when you start, your personal air usage skills, any currents you might be fighting, the water temperature, whether you are doing a safety stop (as you almost always will), etc.

the fact that i'm leaving this sat. makes taking a course over here imposible and i wouldn't get the book in time. (i already thought about these things)

i live in huntingdon (cambridgeshire) i'm working 12 hour days this next week. but if somone could help me after 1 in the afternoon and before 11 at night that would be great!!
