Its a old nikon Film camera housing, i have modified abit to for and work with my Olympus E-420 Dslr camera.

I want a strobe for this now, mainly used for macro images.

Internal flash on the camera can rise all up inside the housing btw.

Possible ?

I realy want to have something that work !
Been useing light insted of strobe for some time now, but i want strobe ! :(

( ps. Im a handy guy, so i can solder wires, make housing glands and thinks like that, to make something work )
But i dont know much about strobes, and strobe connections :S

the_dragon_no1,

This appears to be a 30 year old housing for the Old Canon F-1 with speedfinder. Since there is no housing strobe connection or hotshoe, it is not possible to connect external strobes. You will have to stay with the light you are using for this custom configuration.

soooo isn't it possible to get a hold of some connetions from You for example ??
I'm sorry but i don't belive this is imposible :)

the_dragon_no1,

You could install your own bullkhead and cap: Connector Specifications, however you would still need to find a cord and compatible hotshoe to put into the bulkhead. Drilling and tapping new holes into 30 year old polycarbonate is a bad idea at best and possibly catastrophic should the housing stress crack and flood.

My advice is "don't do it".

Ok, thanks for the reply ! .
Well i have allready ordered a YS Fiber optic strobe, so i'll see how that goes.
If not. thanks for the link !

about drilling holes in the housing. it's no problem, i have allready cut out big pieces inside, and drilled a few new holes for button glands. it's no problem, if you don't rush it. :)

Since the camera's flash still works, you should be able to get any external strobe that fires based on fiber optic cable connection. You just have to have the other end of the fiber optic cable flush against the front of the housing where it could see the light of the internal flash. You likely have to put masking in most of the front of the housing so the flash doesn't go through the housing and light up the subject, causing scattering. Plus, you probably have to ensure the internal flash doesn't internally reflect around and in some way get into the lens.

As for strobe type, you can get a manual strobe, a strobe that has a light sensor on it so it sets the light level for you, or a strobe that simulates the pre-flash of your camera and uses the camera's metering for light level. Whichever strobe, you have to make sure it is compatible with your camera in terms of pre-flash cancellation or pre-flash emulation.

I'm sorry but i don't believe this is impossible :)

If that doesn't work I can probably help you with a connector. I have a couple of old housings with strobe connectors. I am sure that it would limit you to manual operation tho.
