Greetings everyone in south Florida. I live in montreal and I will be arriving in south west florida tomorrow (march 2nd) for a 1 week vacation. I'm planning on getting in some diving while I'm vactioning and was hoping that some local divers can enlighten me as to what I should be wearing when diving in the area at this time of the year. I plan on taking my 5mm wet with me but I'm unclear if a hood and gloves are necessary. I hate carrying extra gear if I don't have to. thanks for your suggestions.

I always wear a hood (beanie) and gloves... But I go inside wrecks a lot...

Also, right now, the water is cold (74-75)

SW Florida... water may be lower 60's at depth..

I'd rather have them and not need them, than vice versa. The gloves are useful if you end up following a mooring ball line up in a strong current. Hoods make great padding when packing dive gear anyway ;)

You guys are amazing and this forum is just too much. I'll defenitely be bringing my hood and gloves for all the good reasons you guys provided. Thanks for answering my question. Dive safely everyone. If anyone plans to be in the Lake Ontario area and would like to do some amazing wreck diving, let me know. Cheers.

Oh dear! You must be careful making such offers, as I will for sure take you up on them!!

And just as I am leaving SW Florida!!!!! Boo. This time of year I am diving my TLS350!!!! Lol.

I decided to try my Henderson 3 mm beanie UNDER my 2 mm hooded vest and had amazing
results. 5 mm at 73-74 degrees seems to be enough for many to stay comfy on dives
running 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and sometimes longer on the shallow dives. I have yet to go to a
5 mm full wetsuit but will have to say the 3 mm beanie and 2 mm hood combined worked well.
As far as gloves for me it's kind of like wearing a watch once you've had it for a while it feels like
something is missing when you go without.

I like wearing two hoods when the water is cool. I really like a 3 mm hooded vest and then another hood (over top) with the collar removed so that it does not go under the collar of the suit or restrict head motion.

Hi again everyone. I have arrived in south west Florida (englewood) and I've just been advised that there is no diving on the south west coast this week because of the tide. The dive shop advised me to go to the east coast, which is a 3 hr drive. What a bummer cause I was really forward to diving here. Any suggestions dudes?
