I was looking at this package deal after deciding to get back into diving again
DGX Custom - Dive Rite TransPlate Singles Package

I'd be diving mainly in SoCal with a 8/7 wetsuit and a steel tank.

I've done a lot of reading the past few nights and have a good idea of what options I should pick, but wanted to get some second opinions before I pull the trigger.

Good setup. I would probably go with Steele plate for salt water. Maybe hold off on weight pockets to make sure you need them.

Would I go with the Lite or the regular for the plate?

I have an older plate and am not sure how that translates to their new ones. Mine is pretty thick, so I would guess standard.

Just call Dive Rite and be prepared to tell them how much weight you typically need. Their staff all dive a lot and can probably get you dialed in pretty well. Just call in and tell them you have a few questions about how to spec out for your needs.

Two of my kids Dive transpacs and I have two transplates. A steel plate for salt and alum for fresh water. Good stuff!

I'd go with a regular plate, not a "lite." I'd also go with a normal harness and just add the straps and weight pockets individually. The transplate harness isn't necessary and is just added cost.
