Thanks for the replies. Has anyone stayed at the Bahia Principe Tulume? Any thoughts about that one?

You should try Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, or for a more intimate experience, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica in Cabo. Both are beautiful luxury Cabo resorts!

The thing about pick ups is simple, you need a specific federal permit for picking up people at hotels and the airport and such. It does have to do with the taxi union, however it is a permit issue. At CX Divers we offer transportation to and from hotels. Depending on the distance there may be an extra charge however most of our pick ups are included.

We looked at it last year but noticed that there are actually 3 Bahia resorts packed together between the highway and the ocean so all together it is huge.

We ended up at Dreams Tulum which is just down the road and really enjoyed it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but do folks on scubaboard generally prefer Aquanauts to Dive Aventuras? Someone on tripadvisor said that Aquanauts is more appropriate for more experienced divers. I have a grand total, since last night, of 9 dives!

I am diving tonight with Dive Aventuras. I dove last year with Aquanauts. I like them both, but tend to dive with Dive Aventuras because they come back to the Omni Hotel/dive shop between dives (then I can check on my non-diving spouse and see if he minds me diving the next dive and then I go out again). The Aquanauts shop is about a half a block from the Dive Aventuras shop so the taxi rides would be the same, they keep their boats at the same dock about 20 yards apart. Aquanauts took us out to near Playa del Carmen and had some great dives. Dive Aventuras dives in the bay here and has some great dive sites. I dove Santos today and saw several turtles, an eel, lots of fish and the dreaded LION fish!!! I dove Veras Garden and Canyons yesterday, gorgeous coral heads and tall tube sponges and huge barrel sponges. Saw several turtles and got an ok picture or two.
Puerto Aventuras is very close to the cenotes, we drove towards Akumal a couple days ago and about 4 minutes out of Puerto we started seeing the signs for Cenotes... I remember the names Eden and Chac Mool, but not all the others that we saw.

As far as which dive op is best for beginners, I'm not sure but Dive Aventuras split us in to about 3 boats with some going to shallower spots and some going to the deeper spots and the Pelicano wreck. I was the only one on the afternoon dive today, but they still took me out diving. Have a great trip.

Hi,

I have stayed at this resort twice. My last time was this past August. It is excellent as far as the hotel goes. Food, service and room are exceptional. Not sure about the diving though as I always dive with Maya Diving which is the shop at the Dreams Tulum resort down the road a bit. I stayed at Dreams as well and it is a great resort too.

The staff and dives out of Dreams are great. The shop on the resort is Maya Diving. You are 5 minutes from any number of cenotes. Dos Ojos, Angelita, Gran Cenote to name a few. The reef is a short ride out so you aren't spending the day just getting to and from the dive sites. They have coral canyons, swim throughs, etc. It is a very professional shop that gives friendly, personal service. The cenote guides are NACD certified so if you want to take a cavern course...no problem.

Here is their link Maya Diving in Tulum: Diving and Snorkeling in Tulum Cenotes and Reefs and Dive Courses.

Tim, Kiwi, Danny or Miguel will take care of you.

Cheers

Sam

Thanks, Chocoholic, for all the info. It's going to be such a change from diving in the local lake!

Check out the Catalonia Royal Tulum on Xpuha Beach. Awesome beach, easy to catch collectivo to explore and a great adults only, smaller resort. It's all good. Going back for our second time on the 25th. Not sure who I'm diving with yet- may dive with Bahia divers on Xpuha or Aquanauts. Had great experience with Aquanauts last year, but it will be a pain to get there this year.

We have a condo in Puerto Aventuras and spend a great deal of time there. We always dive with Dive Aventuras. The owners do their best to accommodate any request that you may have. My husband and I are experienced divers and like that the divemasters allow us some "space" on the dives yet are always ready to assist or point out critters. Our son just got certified in July and his experience was excellent. They have some very patient and knowledgeable divemasters and instructors. Also the boat crews are a pleasant group!
