We are looking for a dive destination that is family friendly (for a 6-12 month old), but still has great diving. Thanks for the tips!

There are many that are family friendly as long as you are not expecting to take a baby on board a dive boat. The keys are easy diving but finding childcare could be an issue if you are not bringing your own sitter. Places like Beaches and Sandals may have childcare available but not necessarily for an infant. Unfortunately the dive ops at these places leave alot to be desired as they tend to be geared towards "underwater tourists" as opposed to divers. They have a lot of 1/2 hour dives on crowded boats filled with those who don't dive any other time. Bonaire has great shore diving but a flight from Wisconsin to there may be a bit much for the little one and the other people on the plane. Maybe not politically correct but face it. Very young children on planes are rarely fun. Again your big problem will be child care if both of you expect to dive. If not it's no big deal. But straight up dive trips are frankly no place for an infant.

Dive Tek Hawaii on the Big Island has onboard childcare with sitter. . .

There are some places that have medium okay diving that satisfy some definition of "family friendly", but it really depends upon how you define "family friendly".

Are you talking about day care/babysitting? Immediate quality medical care? For older kids- a day program? Some place that doesn't mind squalling kids at the table?

Great diving? Depends on your prior experience and expectations. After Wisconsin, it's all pretty good! ;)

Family Friendly? Everyone has a different standard. What's yours?

Yes they do, and fortunatley they do not mix the two types of trips. So, I'm betting there is an extra fee involved..... but I do not know for sure.

Travelled with two wee ones for many years. The most family friendly dive destination we found was Cozumel. Presidente International to be exact. Great kids club. Never felt more comfortable. If you really want to make life easy tho brong a nanny. You might think thats out of reach but if you consider a rental villa in San Miguel on Cozumel and take someone young who will be satisfied with food and accomodation in lieu of salary it works really well. Trust me I did it for many years.

Thanks for the suggestions. We're not looking for day-care, just resort or hotel that is used to small children. I will probably not dive this first trip, but my husband will! We have enjoyed Coz in the past and will check out the options.

A condo in Kona with a nanny. We have done it twice. We also did the same thing in Grand Cayman.
We have travelled on dive trip with both our our boys since they were born. We focus on whatever solution is going to help us enjoy our trip and our childrens company. A nanny (or a grandparent) fits the mold.
I wouldn't worry about weather or not the kids are having fun, they aren't going to remember it....
