And be sure to insure your camera well. State Farm's Personal Articles Policy is great, or maybe scheduled property on your homeowners. DAN and DEPP are not so good in camera coverage. Half of the threads in Lost & Found are about cameras.

Losing the camera is an unconciously deliberate act I think.. You know the kinda thing you unconciously do to have an excuse to go shop for a new one :p

Nah, I think most losses occur to new owners. Personally I think it's clumsy diving to lose one, but it happens all the time.

I have one of the nice brass dog clips. Early on, I saw this camera slowly starting for the surface and I said, "Who is the idiot who lost.... OH $%#$%^" Learned the valuable lesson to not only use a nice clip, but also make sure there is not any sand or crap in the clip keeping it from closing....

What is a dog clip? At least you have a floater, but a red float strap would make it easier to find on the surface.

The big brass clip like the end of a dog leash? its on a nice springy cable thing with the magnets. I actually like my camera kind of neutral. I don't like it floating up when I am digging for stuff in the BC.

Oh, a bolt clip on a spring tether. Magnets...??

Bolt Clip? I believe you if it looks like this: Solid_Brass_dog_clip.jpg

I have a spring tether with magnets on both ends. The magnets clip together and take the slack up so it hangs relatively tight to your chest. One good jerk breaks the magnets loose and you have lots of spring cable.

I suppose there are various names in use for such. You took that pic from Solid Brass dog clip products, buy Solid Brass dog clip products from alibaba.com where it's called a Dog clip, and they are useful for such. I'm not sure where I picked up the name bolt clip - hardware store, divers, my mind...? :dontknow:

I think my LDS tried to sell me a spring tether kinda like your description but I declined. I have enough hanging around with my slung pony and two second stages. I like my camera strapped to my wrist. I was concerned about losing it while swimming with whale sharks, no strobe or float strap, negative in the murky water, etc. but kept it tight on my wrist ok. Now I have one slightly positive and the float strap as well.

Well, I also like to sling mine if I am not taking a picture, like during decent or whatever. (or when the battery runs out on the camera which is another reason I sorta think the Canon digital elph was better than the fancy sea life....) With the strobe it sort of make a "U" that allows it to cradle around my upper arm, out of the way if I am digging for my light or slate or something. Not really secure, but with the cable back up, I am ok. (provided I checked to make sure the clip engaged....)
