I went to the 3R's workshop at Point Dume this month. It is a good site orientation for the specific dive site. They talk to you about selecting a dive site in general and about specific hazards of the site they are at. Point Dume for example is an Advance dive due to the strong current and the distance (548 yards) of the swim against the current (Normally) to get back to the beach.

Diving with Sandeaters is a great idea, or you can call me anytime for a dive.

Deer Creek Ventura County 08:00 a.m. 24 July 04 for example.

We picked a book called "A Diver's Guide to Southern California's Best Beach Dives" at our LDS which details something like 5 dozen sites from LA to SD. It's a great book. It's published by Saint Brendan's and you can check them out and order the book at www.saintbrendan.com. I know that Pacific Wilderness carries the book if you don't want to order it.

Try Corral Beach or Escondido Beach in Malibu -- both well protected with sand and occasional rocks in the surf line. Also el Matador in Malibu is good but there is a stair climb to get back to the parking.

3R's is definitely worthwhile.
