I bought a Dive Rite Transpac with a Rec wing on it. Turns out its way too much wing for what I am doing which is travelling and warm water diving with 6-20lbs of weight depending on exposure suits and salinity. I am looking to get a smaller wing for this setup.

I was thinking about either the Travel or Venture wings from Dive Rite, but wondered if there were other wings out there from different manufacturers that would fit the Dive Rite Transpac and be better suited for this purpose.

Also, for those familiar with the Travel and Venture wings, do you have a preference? What are the functional differences in those? Thanks in advance.

I dive a Transpac with the Travel wing. Great setup. I removed the back and hip pads to make it more streamlined.

The Venture wing is basically the Travel wing with a ballistic nylon outer cover. I think the Travel wing should work fine unless you need the extra protection. The Oxycheq wings will fit. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3. You should be able to them all for under $250.

Just returned from a livaboard trip where I put 26 dives on relatively new Transpac w/ Travel Wing. Coincidently, the couple next to me were using: She - a DiveRite bp/w and Venture Wing and he - a Transpac with a Red Rec Wing.

I like that Red wing but not the Rec wing. The Travel Wing was perfect. I do like the overall shape of the Venture wing better. Longer and more narrow at the top. The Travel Wing is a little too square in shape for my liking yet it performed flawlessly.

I think any wing with 11" centers on the grommets will attach just fine but I'm sure someone encumbered by more knowledge in this area can give you a more definitive answer.

I really liked the Transpac... solid as a rock. I did use the crotch strap and we dove steel 95's. The tank didn't move a bit.

Thanks for the input. Where are the good prices on these? I noticed Scubatoys and Dive Rite Express has them for $302.

Thanks for the input, but I am having a tough time following the flow here. Which was the red wing you liked? And do you prefer the Venture to the Travel wing?

You can buy Oxycheq direct or from Scubatoys. I live in NYC, so I buy just about all my stuff from Leisurepro, they have a good price on Diverite equipment.

Hey Ron, I'm curious about your removal of some of the padding on your TransPac. Did it cause any discomfort? Do you dive with a wetsuit?

The red wing would be a RecWing. The downside to a Travel wing is that it cannot be used with a blackplate, if you ever decide to go that route. I sometimes dive a Venture wing and it is an easy to purge donut shape.

I dove the Transpac with all the bells and whistles attached. Tank pad, back pad, 32lb pockets, various D-rings, etc and didn't like it. Too much stuff. I was planning on returning it, but today I got a wild hair and stripped it down. Took off all the pads except the shoulder pads, a few D-Rings, the 32lb weight pouchs and then readjusted the whole setup.

I like the way it feels now. Very barebones. Kinda like the way I would assume a good BP/W setup feels but without the metal digging in my back. (I dive in swimsuit and Underarmor T-shirt) I was concerned that the exposed Transpac would bother me, but so far it hasn't while dry. And that usually where it bugs me.

That's what go this whole thread started. I started thinking if I could take this lightened setup and add some XS Scuba 5lb weight pouches and a nice small wing, that it would be really nice for warm water diving.

My Transpac w/o the hip and back pads works great.
I've shore dive it with just a rash shirt and it
doesn't feel uncomfortable at all.

I like to keep the waist/shoulder connector plates as
far to the back as possible. I use serrated belt
slides to keep the connector plates in place. With
the connector plates all the way back, it makes
everything real stable.

I have the little Diverite clipper pockets if I need to wear weight and a big safety sausage pocket if I'm drift diving.

Attached are a couple of pics. One shows the BC w/o the padding, the other is a close up of how I have the shoulder/waist connectors positioned.

The way you can customize with different pocket sizes, types, positions, d-rings, etc., is a big plus. Since I only dive single tank warm water, I don't need the extra weight and stability of a BP. The Transpac is the perfect BC for me.
