In the newly published book, The Florida Spiny Lobster, by John Kappes, he mentions the slipper lobster, or Spanish lobster, is known in the Big Bend area of Florida as the "bulldozer" lobster. There is no season or size restrictions on this lobster, other than the ban on taking egg-bearing females. He states that "divers in the Big Bend area often harvest large numbers of "bulldozers" and they are sometimes found on the menus of seafood restaurants near there." Apparently these critters actually taste better than the Florida Spiny Lobster - sweeter. Having no experience at all diving in this area, other than catching scallops in Steinhatchee, and having seen only one slipper lobster in my life while diving the Keys, I am a complete neub at the slipper lobster game. Does anyone in this part of Florida have any advice for where these critters can be found? I am planning to go back to Steinhatchee several times this year during scallop season, and would like to bring some of these slipper lobsters home with me, if I can find a guide or a local guy who can put me on to the where and how of finding these ugly little critters. Thanks.

We caught 8 or 9 of them out at the Chevron last week... but thats about all the information I've got on them.
