What's the right card to allow you to use doubles?!

Brian

Cave Excursions wants to see a "Full Cave" card to rent doubles. I think Ginnie Springs also wants to see the same card.

Yep. Same at Aquatech.

Anyone have a good sense for why this is? There really isn't much around Ginnie to explore but geez. If they are gonna let you play in the ballroom, they should allow you to take two tanks in there. But then you've got places like Devi's Den that don't even allow doubles.

Crazy...

I went into the Den with doubles and the 'sun' (HID). They made me promise that I would not go into the caves however. Promised that, left the reel at the surface and had a jolly good time. I can understand why they limit some of the spots and why certain items are not allowed. Too many people got hurt (for whatever reason, this is another thread), but if they feel you are honest and will not do things that will add to their record of accidents, you would probably get some clemency.

Well that's good. They seemed pretty adamant on the phone. I don't even OWN a reel or a primary light. I sure as heck am not heading into any cave! I told them I didn't want to break my doubles down to dive there as I would be over at Blue Grotto as well. They mentioned I could rent a BC and single tank setup from them.

*sigh*

Stephen,

I was thinking they might have them deploy a bag, and do a "pretend deco" at recreational depths. It would simulate everything but the gas switch (which of course is the big issue). In my class we did the gas switch but with a "bottom safe" mix. So we got the idea and the procedure, but without the danger of a toxic mix. And the switch was done at 40ft.

in my aow class, i shot a bag and did my safety stop with it and switched to a stage ( same as back gas ). simulated deco stop.

They let you take doubles in the Ballroom, renting might be an issue but once you have them its not.

Which agency was that with?

sdi. it was the deep class. my inst. was a tech diver who taught a little about tech stuff.

"One option for travelling is for you to learn to use independent doubles. ... You will eliminate the need for a manifold and will be able to rent single tanks anywhere. You just need to carry bands and a couple of regs."

Actually I don't think the DSS plate even requires the bands, though it does require a wing (such as the lcd 50) with slots in the right places for the cam bands. I think that may be the way to go for me. Actual deco dives will be probably be out of the question though since my buddy won't be diving doubles, and for all the other reasons mentioned. I still want to get into it, but budget constraints will make it a slow journey.
