Since you asked... here is a killer deal... like new 40# Explorer wing... $200. Look at the gear exchange section on the deco stop.

One option for travelling is for you to learn to use independent doubles. It will require you to have 2 spgs but instead of a manifold you alternate your tank as you dive as follows 1/3 off right side,1/3 off left (turn dive) ,1/3 off left last 1/3 off right. You will eliminate the need for a manifold and will be able to rent single tanks anywhere. You just need to carry bands and a couple of regs.

Again, since you asked, I have an independant double (travel) band and dual yoke manifold. I think it is a perfect match with 40lb wing. :)
Please let me know if you are insterested in.

Same can be done with a manifold. I've never had problems setting up doubles... but one does need to take all the required gear... except the cylinders, of course. OTOH, if you plan it right, you can get doubles at many dive destinations. But, OTOH, I have been to a at least one place where you couldn't use 'em unless you could show the right card.

If they are used with a manifold they are not independant. Is that the type that uses one reg?

What's the right card to allow you to use doubles?!

Brings up an interesting point - and I don't want to hijack this thread - which is, how does everyone travel with doubles? All of you DIR guys (and gals) from the NW, if you come down here to cave country on a vacation, do you rent doubles down here or make arrangements with people that you know to borrow gear? What do you do? I'm guessing NE folks might be more inclined to make the long drive since you can bring all of your gear down. True? False?

Brian

Currently I am in California so it is a little different than normal. When I am at home in Virginia and want to cave dive I do drive my gear down, the drive takes one day and is enjoyable. My Toyota Prius helps keep fuel costs down. If I want to dive out of Virginia beach or off the North Carolina coast, again I bring my own gear. In cave country doubles are easily rentable so all you need to pack is the rest of the rig.

Yes, but it is a versatile option. He can attach and deattach the manifold as he wants.:05:
