need advice about camper vans in australia

HI...we're planning our trip to australia (Fall of 2011) and will be renting camer vans in various locations. My question is about insurance..our Canadian auto insurance won't cover us in Australia..is the best idea to take the rental company's insurance ... or can we get separate insurance for camper vans another way ??
