Hello,

I'm looking for a good school in Cleveland Ohio. I'm not even going to touch the dive agency question. Just hoping to get some recomendations for a good school or instructor.

Thanks very much,

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

I moved this here so you locals can help a new diver out...

Owl,

My instructor is Alan Almeida. He is an independent instructor; not physically associated with a dive shop.

He is a full-time Cleveland police officer and offers scuba diving lessons as a passion of his. I found him to be very attentive to me as a student. The nice thing is that almost all his classes are one-on-one, so the student receives incredible time and assistance.

His fees are also very reasonable.

If you would like his contact information, please let me know. He has a website you can view also.

FYI - I live in Detroit. I drove from Detroit to Cleveland to take my lessons through Alan. I met him at a quarry one weekend, where I was hanging out watching others dive. After a brief conversation, he offered a discovery dive class to me, on the spot. I was so comfortable with him at the end of our hour together, I chose to continue my OW through him. I am also taking my AOW through Alan this spring.

I know you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the tip gNats. Do you know which agency he's with?

Yes, he is PADI.

here is his website. Dive Time Scuba

He has access to a high school pool. does open water dives at Whitestar, Portage, and even Gilboa.

He and I have become really good friends, so of course I am partial. But, I think that goes to say something about him also.

I know he can also provide you other diver references. he has gear and tanks for your use if you are not geared up. And, he does associate with a few LDS's so he can also hook you up with a store when you are ready to buy equipment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

xto,
First let me start by thanking gNats for the vote of confidence. In all reality instructing her was easy, as she has such a drive for the sport. If you would like to let me know what it is you are looking for I can sure point you in the right direction. For instruction, I can help you out or if you would feel more comfortable with someone else, I can give you a list of contacts that I know will make the training easy, safe, and fun. I can also give you contacts for dive shops in the area for any gear purchase that you would like. Feel free to drop me a line at alan@divetimescuba.com or 216-476-9408.

I can recommend Safety Service Divers in Amherst, OH. He is a PADI instructor and a Bay Village Fireman/Paramedic. I'd be happy to send you contact info if you would like.
