I have recently joined the UW Digital world and now I want to print a few of the better ones ( heheh at this point its just a few ) I am aware of Ofoto but there are times you just want to print one for a gift or just cause you think its worth it. What have people been successful using out there. Cnet recommends the Epson 785 EPX... any suggestions. Also I live in Canada any suggestions as to Photo developing other than Ofoto?

Thanks

I print mine on my computer. I have a HP 825 and its prints great pictures as long as the quality is there from the pic. I use High Gloss paper from HP or Epson. I don't like the kodak paper, it seem to stay tacky too long. I have pics on ofoto and when someone wants one of them they just email me and I send the pic to them via email so they can print it out.

Hope this helps

I guess my first question would be: how large do you want to print your photos? Next, at what resolution?

We have an Olympus 4.1 Megapixel digital camera that we use for our u/w photos. This means that we can get exceptional resultion up to/including a 14" x 17" picture. However, the standard size we want to put up on our wall is 8" x 10" at 300 dpi resolution. (By contrast, web photos are usually at about 72 dpi resolution.)

We bought our Epson Stylus Photo 1280 about a year ago. It gives us prints every bit as sharp & colourful as the ones we used to have printed from our slides at the photo store.

BTW, don't forget about about photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop to help you crop/edit your pix.

P.S: Here's a link to some of our photos. I'll be posting some more to the website shortly: http://y42.briefcase.yahoo.com/pgdaley2001

I've been looking at printers lately - seems like the canon s900 is a good mid priced inkjet that gets lots of rave reviews. Inkjet printing is very much dependent on the quality of the paper. The Olympus P400 is a fantastic thermal printer that makes prints as good as any pro printing place.

As far as online, i think henrys.com seems to be the cheapest i've found for development so far at 59cents if you do 5 or more.

well as someone who works in a computer shop I can recomend just about any of HP photo printers from photosmart P 1100 and above models up they will work and print great pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got the Canon S900 to print my UW photos and it is incredible. My 8 x 10s look like real photos ... amazing.

Epson 810. Fantastic for the price - also uses 5 colours CMY + light C + light M and K instead of the conventional CMYK for more subtle colour accuracy. Epson also has a fantastic range of paper (check out the premium glossy photo paper, glossy film and the matte paper). Be warned though - it chews through the consumables and the head and nozzle needs regular cleaning.

Yeah, make sure you have some decent photo editing software as well...

I am using a Canon I550... It only uses CYMK ink, but the pictures are fantastic.. All the ink cartridges are seperate so you save on consumables.. And for C$160 it was a steal..They have another model that uses 6 ink cartridges, but to be honest I could not tell the difference in the pictues..

My recommendation is the Canon S9000. It will print 13"x19" (12.7x18.7 useable) prints beautifully. I printed out some smaller ones for testing purposes but don't foresee buying 8"x10" paper ever again since they just don't have the impact of the larger prints (237 square inches just dwarfs 80 sq.in. SOOO much).
The printer will be more expensive at the beginning ($700 Canadian) but will save you money in the long run since it has 6 ink cartridges (ya only replace the ONE you need to), and the print head is user-replaceable if you manage to wear it out.
This printer is also touted as one of the fastest and quietest available.
