A Mk2+/R190 is an unbalanced combo. It won't breath as well as a balanced setup at low tank pressure or deeper depths.

I think that the Mk2/R190 is supposed to be pretty good for not freezing up. I know that they are very reliable.

The shop here uses them for OW classes with no problems.

Thanks for your response. I had guessed that it was probably ok, since I used a MK2 for my OW dives in 43 degree fresh water. However, the air was warm then...I've never done any winter diving where the air was freezing. I'll be careful not to breathe off of it before I go under.

I've been down around 80 fsw with the reg before and it breathed pretty well, though having tried a MK25/S600 combo in the store, I am AMAZED....the thing breathes for you.
