MadisonK:
www.maineharbors.com is a good place to start

you can find weather forecasts, wave heights and periods, tide charts, water temps at surface and at DEPTH ( http://www.gomoos.org/buoy/all_measure_buoy.shtml?buoy_id=A ) . This buoy is off Cape Ann.

There are many other buoys around but not all of them have water temps to any depth other than surface.

BTW - I wonder how they come to determine the water temps at depth? I read the site briefly but did not find an explanation. Perhaps models with the surface temp as a starting point?

The buoy is moored to the bottom so I'm guessing they have gauges on the mooring line.

Sweet!!! That's awesome.

Looks like there is no longer a thermocline :(

The thermocline disapeared with all of those early fall storms. The water was so churned up that the surface temp was/is the same as the bottom or at least real close.

Yeah that would make sense....great site. I wish these buoys extended into my other favorite NE dive area around Block Island.

By the way, in case you have not come across the following site check it out: http://www.geodiving.com/

This site is relatively new but it's a great idea. They list dive sites with GPS coordinates. As a fellow boater you will appreciate access to the coordinates. I hope the site becomes more popular with more boaters/divers contributing to the database. I have only verified the accuracy of the USS-Bass coordinates so far. They were dead on.
