One of the clubs I am affiliated with has an opening on a trip to Morehead City, NC the last week of August. The current plan is to depart from Dayton on the morning of 26 Aug. The trip down will take approximately 12 hours. We'll do daily two tank dives with Atlantis Charters from Monday to Friday. We will return to Dayton on Saturday. We may cut the dives days to four if everybody feels five days is too long/expensive. The cost of the trip includes: Charter costs, fuel surcharge (depends on cost of fuel), hotel costs, gas for the two vehicles we're taking, and two Nitrox (optional) fills per day. At this point we are looking at $1060.00 for five days of diving. Any days that are blown out, will result in a $150.00 credit to each diver. For further details on the trip and associated cost, feel free to PM me.
Tanks and weights are the individual diver's responsibly. If you don't own any tanks, you may wish to consider renting from your local shop as we may not arrive early enough to rent tanks for the first day's dive. Food is not included in this cost. We'll be on the boat a good portion of the day and we bring along munchies to keep hunger at bay. The typical schedule is the boat departing at 6AM and returning in the late afternoon, typically 2PM. Gives us some time to clean up and prepare for dinner. For dinner, we will try one of the local establishments each night.
Accomodations are doubles. You will be asked to share a room with one of the other divers. To keep costs in check, we will most likley stay at an Ecno-Lodge type of hotel. We're divers not divas.
We are planning on diving the U-352 and wrecks that are frequented by sand tigers. There are many to choose from. We plan on hitting a few wrecks where the depth can reach 110-120 feet. We will also do some that are less challenging. The wrecks we choose will be based on current conditions, diver inputs, and desire to keep fuel usage reasonable. We will insist on good buddy skills, safety sausage/SMB, and a great sense of humor would not hurt. We did this trip two years ago and had a really good time and I'm looking forward to this one. The water is warm enough to use a 3 Mil and the vis can be good to great.
