One of the clubs I am affiliated with has an opening on a trip to Morehead City, NC the last week of August. The current plan is to depart from Dayton on the morning of 26 Aug. The trip down will take approximately 12 hours. We'll do daily two tank dives with Atlantis Charters from Monday to Friday. We will return to Dayton on Saturday. We may cut the dives days to four if everybody feels five days is too long/expensive. The cost of the trip includes: Charter costs, fuel surcharge (depends on cost of fuel), hotel costs, gas for the two vehicles we're taking, and two Nitrox (optional) fills per day. At this point we are looking at $1060.00 for five days of diving. Any days that are blown out, will result in a $150.00 credit to each diver. For further details on the trip and associated cost, feel free to PM me.

Tanks and weights are the individual diver's responsibly. If you don't own any tanks, you may wish to consider renting from your local shop as we may not arrive early enough to rent tanks for the first day's dive. Food is not included in this cost. We'll be on the boat a good portion of the day and we bring along munchies to keep hunger at bay. The typical schedule is the boat departing at 6AM and returning in the late afternoon, typically 2PM. Gives us some time to clean up and prepare for dinner. For dinner, we will try one of the local establishments each night.

Accomodations are doubles. You will be asked to share a room with one of the other divers. To keep costs in check, we will most likley stay at an Ecno-Lodge type of hotel. We're divers not divas.

We are planning on diving the U-352 and wrecks that are frequented by sand tigers. There are many to choose from. We plan on hitting a few wrecks where the depth can reach 110-120 feet. We will also do some that are less challenging. The wrecks we choose will be based on current conditions, diver inputs, and desire to keep fuel usage reasonable. We will insist on good buddy skills, safety sausage/SMB, and a great sense of humor would not hurt. We did this trip two years ago and had a really good time and I'm looking forward to this one. The water is warm enough to use a 3 Mil and the vis can be good to great.

Some pics can be found on the www.rec2tec.com photo gallery.

If you are interested in joining us…Please PM me and let me know.

Cheers

JC

Thanks for sharing with us. It sounds like an AWESOME trip and I hope someday to dive out of Morehead City. Unfortunately, family obligations will keep me at home in late August or I'd jump at the chance to join you guys.

I live in NC, and it is some of the best wreck diving to be found. However, because of the depths of some of the wrecks and the currents, it is advanced diving. Be sure to take all of your safety gear--safety sausage, air horn (dive alert), shears or knife, etc. Watch your air consumption and don't worry too much about the sharks.

There is an historic town, Beaufort that houses a wonderful maritime museum and has some artifacts that were brought up from the Queen Ann's Revenge (Blackbeard's ship). The town is charming, full of historical buildings, an old grave yard and plenty of good restaurants and entertainment.

You're killing my. You're just killing me. Last summer my wife and I had a 5 day trip booked and planned to Beaufort. I had booked two days diving with Olympus. We were going to kayak and just enjoy the area. We had an awesome B&B book. And then my wife's %$^&$%#* boss (now ex-boss) decided she couldn't have the time off. Trip canceled! :crying:

I vow to get out there within the next few years!

Glad to hear he's the ex-boss. So sorry you missed the trip. In June there is a tour of some of those fine old homes. Wipe your tears and plan another trip soon.

I forgot to add that using nitrox on those dives adds more bottom time and is worth the extra expense.

Add to the requirements lots of seasick meds, nothing worse than being 30 miles off shore in 6ft seas hanging over the rail....been there done that, buy SS meds by the 100ct bottle now . If you bring nitrox tanks, remember 32 is not the best choice for NC, our "standard" mix is 30. Instead of 80's, 100's or 120's are better choices if you can rent them.
Brat, you packed??
