Save Ontario Shipwrecks (SOS) Ottawa Chapter is hosting a NAS 1 course August 27-29, 2004. NAS I introduces participants to archaeology in general and shipwreck archaeology in particular and includes practical sessions on underwater surveying techniques. Participants should be prepared to “get wet” as there is both a pool session and a dives on a real shipwreck.

for more information please read the NAS 1 site

I've made this a "sticky" to encourage anyone to take it who has a love of wrecks, and would like to learn more on how they should be mapped, and detailed so the information can be preserved.

It's a great course, and I recommend it. Just think if you get this certification, and happen on a u/w archeology site being examined, if you present your NAS credentials, you may be allowed to join in.

Now that's something I did not know. I've been interested in the course for a while - if I'm not mistaken POW Kingston has been trying to organize this course too. It's kind of unfortunate that my mixed-up schedule has prevented my attendance thus far.........

<sigh>.....such a long way away to go.....any idea when they'd hold it down in my area (St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Hamilton even)

THey had 2 or 3 in Hamilon last year. One was organized by SOS Toronto and another by Hamilton - you may try to contact both and see what you can find

Defenitely a neat course

I would be extremely interested if it came around this area again for sure. Wasn't certified last year in time to go...will contact them thanks.

I would love to take this course as well. I know I have alot of things to do before that happens though.

SOS Toronto seems to have dropped off of the map again. Try Hamilton. They were doing alot with the Millenium wrecks

The course is awesome.

Hi

Wow! how times are changing, I took an archaeology course once, but all we learned was how to swing a hammer and chissel. I guess those days are gone, and now it power tools and torches. I wonder what happened to all the stuff from the Tiller wreck before they gave up its location. LOL
