Does anyone know of anywhere I can take some beginner nautical archeology courses? I've seen what looks to be some good info on NAS (the UK Society). But the only thing I can find in the US is for graduate students at Texas A&M. (And being a proud Longhorn I just can't bring myself to do that ;-)

I'd be interested in getting some training, maybe volunteering for an expedition sometime in the future? I think it would be a cool way to spend a vacation...

Any ideas?

East Carolina's pretty good. Not as good as A&M, of course.

You may also wish to hook up with these folks.

Thanks Archman -

THat's the kinda thing I'm looking for. Lecture series, short courses, etc.

Now if I can only find one in Texas....

Advice from a Razorback...

Go the A&M!!!

Better school than Texas anyway. I know because my wife graduated from Texas.

Once or twice a year Aquarena Springs offers its Basic Underwater Archaeology class.

You need to take the scientific diver course first. But hey, Aquarena's got the best diving in Texas without going offshore. I'm going this weekend. Hooyah.

That sounds like just the ticket! Thanks!

I was interested in taking some NAS courses, wondered if anyone had experience with this, or opinions on NAS training. Their website looks pretty good but wondered if any of you had some non-biased feedback.

Call Dr. Tom Iliffe down at TAM - Galveston and ask his opinion. Seriously. You'll have to wait for a reply, as he's traveling a lot over the summer.
