My first post since joining. I am currentlly free diving in Maui. For the second time I have been dizzy and nauseous to the point of throwing up at the end of about 30 minutes of diving. I made about a dozen dives to depths no greater than 30 feet. I made it out of the water and back to our condo, then threw up on the grass. (Nice huh?) I haven't dived in about 5 years. The same thing happened back then as well. I am 60 years old, healthy, retired pilot. I read another thread about the same problem but not as severe as mine. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening. I am SCUBA certified but haven't dived with compressed air in about 10 years. Any hope for me at all?

I can give you the same sage medical advice that I paid my doctor for when I told him that my knees hurt after running.
  1. "It sucks to get old."
  2. "Don't do that anymore."
I'm not a doctor, but if freediving made me dizzy, I'd probably stop and stick to SCUBA.

I'd say get your stuff serviced, get yourself checked out by a doc, take a Scuba Skills Update class, and enjoy SCUBA!

I'm not a doctor either, but I would guess it's either CO2 retention or a pressure imbalance between your ears. If it was a sudden onset, my money would be on the pressure imbalance.
 
Was it the skin-diving or were you sea sick from the surface action. To enjoy skin0diving I need placid seas otherwise it's not a pretty picture. Motion pills help a lot but you need to get them in your system and I have a long dopey spell afterwards.

I second the motion to return to scuba diving but hang on to the skin-diving. Great exercise and the simplicty is liberating.
