Chickenbone,
You and I are almost identical in our sizes and weight and diving the same thickness of heavy wet suit.
I dive the Venture wing and a SS/BP that I manufactured myself, and the 30# lift of the wing is MORE than adequate in this setup.

scubadobadoo:
I like the transplate for now, since this is my first BP & Wing, and figure that if I do decide I don't like/need the padding or the quick release I can always trade to a hogarthian style harness in the future for very little $.
I would suggest doing this in the opposite order. If you find you like the one piece harness you've saved the fifty dollars (or whatever it costs). However if you get it first then switch you have an expensive harness sitting around that you don't want.

That's a good point cornfed (funny name) but the package price was the same with the basic harness as it was with the transplate harness so I did it backwards instead. Does what I just wrote make sense?

I did decide to get the DR package if you couldn't tell from the past tense in the above paragraph or from some of the other threads. It should arrive today and I'll have it out by Saturday! Wish me luck.

By the way, thanks all for your thoughts and time. Everyone on this board has been great. Once again, an excellent resource!

Kracken,
Thanks for the tip - i've been flip-flopping on whether i would need 45# or 30#. I thought 30# would be logically be more than enough based on my size, etc...

Good Luck chickenbone! Let me know as well. I am still waiting for the UPS man like a kid on Christmas Eve!

Good choice Jason, I have the same setup, save an STA and a Hog harness and I abused mine everyday this summer and the only thing I have to show from it is slight sun bleaching.
