Hi:

Back from a recent Bonaire trip & working on a Blurb book of photos. Would like to get specific I.D.s on a lot of animals we photographed. In this thread, let's take a look at some File Fish.

1.) What kind is this? Is this the orange-spotted filefish?

2.) White-spotted Filefish, right?

I photographed a couple of scrawled filefish but I knew what they were.

Richard.

you are correct, the top one is an orangespotted filefish (the white spot at the base of the tail gives him away)

and the bottom one is a whitespotted filefish (notice the four orange spines at the base of the tail)

Thanks, Andy! The white-spotted was more evident, but when after I found the orange-spotted on my Franko's Bonaire card & did some Googling, I turned up a variety of fish, which didn't look much like that (or each other, for that matter).

Richard.
