it was not tdi sdi ......the agency got a call from the idc instructor he had 4 people on it and he went nuts when I told him a was an instructor Saturday night , I was already a naui instructor but I didn't tell anyone (I wanted the experience on the IDC not a crossover )..anyway the agency took it pretty seriously , as I passed I never looked back . the other first was that I ALMOST certified a Canadian icon singer , he never finished up the course but he didn't want any one to know he was taking the course as his "friend " was an avid diver . So he paid for a private course

How long did the remora ride on your leg?..

It was odder than that. The remora didn't ride my leg, but kept on going back & forth between me & my dive buddy for a long time. I think he hit us up around 65 feet & then through our safety on up to the surface. He'd come up really close to one of us looking for a place to land, then would give up almost immediately returning back to the other person. Poor guy didn't give up till we got back up on the boat!

This ^ story reminds me of a similar story, (that I'm admitedly foggy on the details of, but I can double-check).
Back in the early 90's my brother and I worked for Marina Aqua World in Cancun, and he told me that they were all up at their safety stop when a remora had taken an interest in one of the other divemasters, and kept moving in trying (presumably) to latch on to him. He kept shooing it away, but it persisted, and he finally smacked the thing, at which point it shot in lightning fast, and bit him on his neck !!

.....the other first was that I ALMOST certified a Canadian icon singer....

While admitedly not as good as almost certifying a mysterious but iconic Canadian singer :p, I was minding the shop in Cozumel one day around 1999 or so, and i looked up and recognized actor Kurtwood Smith, who played Red Forman, the crotchety dad on "that 70's Show" (among tons of other roles). He was with his wife, just looking over some dive crap on the shelves, and i said hello and asked if i could help, and optimistically started pitching dives, resorts and certs, but he was already booked diving with another operation, but my boss walked in shortly afterwards, and they got to talking about a reg issue he was having, so he left his regulator for my boss to repair.
We saw him a couple times that week, and he was reasonably nice and approachable, and nobody made an ass of themselves harrassing him (whew!)

I don't mention his name (not hard to figure out his friend so his name would make sense ) I don't want to get sued ..lol

We were diving at Los Islotes, the sea lion colony in the Sea of Cortez. One of the stops is a small alcove where the juveniles swim from top to bottom playing with sea stars.

I felt a tug on my snorkel, which was attached to my mask. I occurred to me that there was a good chance this guy was going to rip off my mask by yanking on the snorkel hard enough. I readied myself, and in a couple more tugs it was off. I let myself sink to the bottom, and waited for my buddy to retrieve the mask.

Once I was settled I knew the sea lion was fond of this particular snorkel. So I detached it and used it as a lure to get him in close. Holding it out in my left hand, I was able to pet the length of his body, feel his flippers, and even touch his teeth . I’m of the “don’t mess with the wildlife” faction but I lost all discipline on that dive.

And it was worth it.

I joined Scubaboard and have not yet started a fight.

A number of years ago I was doing a shallow dive off Key Largo, casually swimming between some coral formations when something in my peripheral vision caught my attention. A fish was swimming behind me and to my right, which is certainly not unusual. I then realized it was a scorpion fish--I had never seen one swimming before. I turned my head, and it instantly dropped down on a rock and went into the normal scorpion fish mode of trying to blend in with its surroundings.

I watched it for a minute or so, convinced that it was watching me as well. I turned back to my previous direction and started to swim away, but I kept my eyes turned toward the fish. After only a few seconds, the scorpionfish arose and started swimming again. I turned my head only, and it instantly dropped back down on the bottom again.

I tried the maneuver again, but this time it did not get up. It clearly had places to go, but it needed its privacy to get there.

Hmm, well I dropped everything in about 15ft of water and swam after the boat at Electric Beach on Oahu. On the day's previous dives the owner of said boat checked the anchor after we all dropped in. I guess he didn't on this dive. I had one of those creepy feelings and circled around to check it and it was gone. I popped up and saw the boat being blown out to sea. I rushed over to one of the other divers and dropped my rig in from of him and swam like hell. I caught the boat about a 1/4 mile offshore well on its way to the Philippines.
