I never dived the house reef, I just went there for a bit of snorkelling (with their friendly doberman dog "Bonnie" ;)). I would guess it's similar to the other spots on the Lembeh island side - lighter sand and maybe not so many critters as on the opposite side (no idea why - maybe the critters prefer the darker sand...?)

But it doesn't matter at all because the boat rides are so short, most of the time.

Have fun there!

I see, thanks for the info, perhaps i will do a trip report on the 2fish divers and NAD house Reef when I back from my Lembeh X mas diving trip :D

Please do, even if it's a quick one. We are considering them for a trip in April08. Have been to Lembeh Resort and loved it but they are expensive so we are trying to find a place that has AC but isn't quite so pricey.

Who is managing the resort/dive ops now? I dove with them in last Oct when Julia and Bernard were still renovating the resort. Very nice couple and I like the way they run the resort and dive ops. Very relaxed. I was thinking of planning a dive trip in 2008 and definitely will stay with them again.

I highly recommend the Reef Fish Identification - Tropical Pacific
by Gerald Allen , Roger Steene , Paul Humann and Ned DeLoach (List US$45, but you can get it with shipping new from Amazon etc., for about US$30) Many of the photos were taken in Lembeh
Would agree with that. Used Humann and DeLoach's books in the Caribbean a lot. Couldn't believe it when we found ourselves in Lembeh diving off the same boat as Humann when he was taking the pictures for this new book. To give you an idea of how rich Lembeh is for fish and critters - it took no time at all to find the stuff he was looking for.

Was at NAD Lembeh from 8-12 Dec, before heading to Bunaken. Had a wonderful time at NAD! Jo & Sandra are managing NAD now. They are friendly & wonderful with guests, very courteous & kind with the other staff too...
We had a non-aircon room, was good enough for us Asians, as we r quite used to the weather, we even had to use the light blankets in the middle of the night, it rained regularly at night (monsoon season)... According to the others who had aircon rooms, the aircon occasionally didn't work throughout the night... Guess it was due to the electricity problem...
We really enjoyed the food there... Breakfast was more "simple" - fruits, Asian style fried noodles or fried rice, fried eggs or scrabbled eggs, banana "pancakes" etc & of course - bread... For lunch & dinner, there would be 2 type of meats (fish, chicken or seafood etc), 2 types of cooked/fried vegetables & salad, dessert or fruits & soup for dinner.
Only did 1 house-reef quick checkout dive at dusk (the sun set at 5:30pm), there was a juvenile sweet-lips, shrimps, a large cleaner shrimp. Was very shallow at the house-reef, abt 3m only. The viz was not great though, less than 5m...
Diving at other sites was wonderful! Especially enjoyed the Mawali Wreck & Police Pier. We met a pod of abt 20 pilot whales on the way to Bangka! :D
My hubby finally did his OW at NAD. Planning to return next year to do his AOW there, Jo was a very patient instructor & conditions at Lembeh are gd for dive training. The walls & currents of Bunaken were too intimadating for his AOW... Anyway, I would be very happy to return to NAD, there are so many sites that we haven't had time for & haven't met ornate ghost pipefish & wunderpus...

This is wonderful news! My sweetie and I are arriving at NAD on January 5th and we are diving there until the 11th. Silk Air changed the time of our flight, so that kills the afternoon dive(s) we had planned for the 5th but we ARE looking forward to some great dives. Would anyone care to recommend one or two special sites (we have dived Lembeh before with KBR, but this is the first time with NAD). Thanks
D

If you are too late for afternoon dive, do a night dive. Night dives are great fun at Lembeh and easy to do as the tide doesn't go out much.

For a night dive not from NAD try the dive site Pantai Parigi - Depth 3m - 28m
A gentle slope just off of Lembeh Island, hiding in the sand we've seen seahorses, devil fish and robust pipe fish, in the shallows is a very pretty patch reef in which to end the dive.

We saw a crab spawning (first time for me and my local guide) on a night dive there. Also both times we dove it we saw eight inch long (measured) Spanish dancers Hexabranchus sanguineus.
