I posted this over in a Bonaire forum, and it was recommended that I might have better luck over here...

I took this photo in Bonaire in August 2012 and have a very similar one that I took also in Bonaire back in 2011. I have scoured over all of my identification books and can't figure out what this is. It is small, probably only an inch or so, and I believe the color is true since I did have a good lighting and a red filter. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It looks somewhat similar to a type of cyanobacteria that has taken over parts of Honaunau. It clings to the tips of Porites compressa, smothering what is underneath, and forms these little red slimy balls.

I did lose my bubble gum.

Tunicate?
